Sally White, the daughter of Verlin and Helen (Pemble) Huffman, was born February 11, 1939 at Paton, Iowa and departed this life October 15, 2012 at her rural home near Churdan. She lived her life to the age of 73 years, 8 months and 4 days.

Sally grew up in the Paton and Churdan area and attended and graduated from the Paton Consolidated High School in 1956. On August 31, 1957, Sally Huffman was united in marriage to Paul White at the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton. Three children were born to this union, Julie, Rick and Cari. Sally and Paul moved to Churdan in 1961 and Sally worked as school secretary from 1964 to 2002.
Sally was an active member of the Churdan United Methodist Church and church organist for over 40 years and also was organist for the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton for the past several years. Sally was active in the Greene County Historical Society, Sweet Adeline’s and the Churdan Town and Country Band. Sally was always interested in photography and authored “Sally’s Backyard Birds” book which was highlighted in the Des Moines Register.

Sally is survived by her husband Paul, children; Julie (Mike) Berger of Lohrville, Rick (Amy) White of Clive and Cari (David) Fitzpatrick of Altoona, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Gary Huffman of Fort Dodge and Denny Taute of Arizona and a sister, Marlene Littrell of Missouri. Those who preceded her in death were her parents and step-father, Marvin Taute.

A celebration of Sally’s life was held Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Churdan with Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Interment was made in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. Musical selections, “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were sung by soloist Doyle Carlson and accompanied by organist, Danielle Curtis.

Serving as casket bearers were Dave Meyer, Denny Matthews, Dennis Klocksiem, Bill Gebhart, Kerry Hanlon and Leonard Griffith.

Visitation from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Churdan.
