The library’s popular Saturday Special program of Furry Tales has moved to Franklin Avenue Library. Exercise you reading skills with Scout, the therapy dog. Stop by the library to sign up for a ten-minute slot to share a favorite story with a four-legged friend. Saturday, Oct., 20, at 11 a.m.

WOW! Author visit
Monday, Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.
Come to hear Lorna Graham, author of “The Ghost of Greenwich Village” and Daphne Uviller, author of “Super in the City.” Beaverdale Books will have books available for sale and signing.

BeTween the Lines: Tween Book Discussion
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 4 p.m.
Please join us for our first tween book discussion. We’ll have snacks and a craft to go along with the book’s theme. This month we will discuss “Every Soul a Star” by Wendy Mass. Books will be available at the youth services for you to sign out. Parents are invited to read the book and join in the discussion.

Undead Ball for Teens
Monday, Oct. 29, 4 p.m.
Calling all teenage zombies, vampires and monsters of all kinds. Celebrate Halloween at the Undead Ball. There will be games, food and D.I.Y. Halloween makeup. Costumes are optional. Preregister.

Afternoon Book Discussion
Monday, Nov. 5, 1 p.m.
Discuss the book “The Buddha in the Attic” by Julie Otsuka. Ask for a copy of the book at the Franklin Avenue Library’s Information Desk.

Booktalking – The Battle of the Books
Wednesday, Nov. 7, 4 p.m.
Get a jump on the Battle of the Books with a discussion of the following three books from the Des Moines Public Schools list: “Dead End in Norvelt,” “On the Blue Comet” and “The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester.” Students ages 8 and older may join in the fun activities, games and chat by preregistering.

Evening Book Discussion
Tuesday, Nov. 13, 6:30 p.m.
Discuss the book “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern. A copy of the book may be obtained at the Information Desk of the Franklin Avenue Library.

Preschool Story Time
Mondays, 10:15 a.m.
Develop your imagination with stories, rhymes, songs. and a lot of fun!

Baby Rhyme Time
Tuesdays, 10:15 a.m.
Ages 0-12 months.
Occurs weekly for babies and their caregivers featuring rhymes, songs, bouncing and a story or two.

Toddler Story Time
Wednesdays, 10:15 and 10:50 a.m.
Come share stories, fingerplays, and songs.
