The time is upon us. A time to give thanks and appreciation for the people and the world around us that make us who we are. The folks at Asbury United Methodist Church understand that.
Asbury United Methodist Church believes that, “by giving yourselves, we can help those that cannot help themselves.”
A Thanksgiving InGathering is upon us and Asbury United Methodist Church needs your help preparing the “feast” of activities that will be taking place. The church is looking for volunteers to prepare one of the many kits that will be sent to people suffering from hunger in your hometown or a disaster abroad. The kits can be themed for health, infants, school supplies, sewing kits, etc.
There will be a congregational auction on Oct. 21 after the Sunday morning church service with those items also being donated. Volunteers are being recruited to help set up the event on Friday, Nov. 2, providing small treats for coffee time. Volunteers are needed to give their time to work on the day of the event or give a monetary donation.
The Thanksgiving InGathering takes place annually on the first Saturday of November, this year falling on Nov. 3. The event is used as an outlet for Iowa United Methodists’ mission to address hunger problems both locally and universally.
The InGathering takes place at five different locations throughout the state. In Webster City, Asbury United Methodist Church pastor, Jay Amundson said, “For each year that the gathering has taken place, Iowa United Methodists have raised nearly $1 million with this one-day effort.”
All of the proceeds go to missions at home and throughout the world.
Along that vein, Asbury United Methodist Church is also holding a quilt auction that day to accompany the kits that will help those in need.
