Funeral Services for Esther Katherine Jacobson, 101 of Urbandale formerly of Jefferson will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 8, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery, Sranton, Iowa. Visitaiton with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Esther Katherine Jacobson was born September 18, 1911 near Brayton, Iowa, the sixth of ten children to Danish Immigrants Lars Christian Andersen and Johanna Petrea Bensen Andersen. Esther grew up in rural Iowa and received her education in rural schools.
On January 13, 1931, Esther married Walter L. Jacobson in Scranton, Iowa. They farmed in Scranton, Jackson and Greenbrier Townships in Greene County until his death in 1969. They were the parents of three daughters, Phyllis Lorraine, Velma Jean and Donna Mae. After Walter’s death, Esther purchased her home in Jefferson where she resided until August 2004. She then moved to Urbandale, Iowa and made her home with her daughter and son-in-law. During her years in Jefferson, Esther did baby sitting and was a caregiver for many elderly in their homes. She was a very caring person and enjoyed sharing with others. She was proud of her Danish heritage. Her family was a very important part of her life. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
>Esther passed away October 4, 2012 at home in Urbandale. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Velma Jean Dagit in 1996, granddaughter Dorothy (wife of Steven) Brown in 2007, her three brothers: Sorn, Emmer, and Chris Andersen; and her six sisters: Mary, Clara, Leona, Ramona, Lily and Ethel.
Surviving are two daughters: Phyllis Brown and husband Wayne of Bayard, IA; Donna Loof and husband Roger of Urbandale, IA; son-in-law Larry Dagit and wife Sue of Brookline Station, MO; six grandchildren: Steven Brown of Ida Grove, IA; Jerry (Kristie) Brown of Algona, IA; Katherine (Larry) Happe of Overland, MO; Linda (Rande) Seuferer of Milo, IA; Lori McGivney of Bayard, IA; LaNae (Bruce) Becker of Troy, MO; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.
