December 13, 1940 – October 1, 2012
Lonnie L. Dill, age 71, of Boone, after a 6 ½ year brave battle with lung cancer and COPD, passed peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on October 1, 2012 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Private Family Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone, Iowa with Rev. Phil Webb officiating.
Burial will be in the Squire – Boone Cemetery, Southeast of Boone, Iowa. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Boone Veterans Council.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family present to greet friends at this time.
Lonnie was born to Truman M. and Eunice A. (Campbell) Dill on December 13, 1940 at Greenfield, Missouri.
Lonnie attended school in Indianola, Iowa and graduated from Indianola High School in 1958, and then attended and graduated from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, with classes for carpentry, masonry and plumbing.
Lonnie was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1961-1966. He proudly served in the First Infantry Division (The Big Red 1) and was a record-setting tank gunner in the 4th Armor Division in Germany.
Lonnie was married to Mary Louise Wedgbury on October 3, 1970 at Laurens, Iowa.
He has been a self-employed Residential Building Contractor for the past 42 years in and around the Boone area.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boone. Most of his time was dedicated to providing for and being with his family. His hobbies were watching NASCAR Races, and his business, Lonnie Dill Construction.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald W. Dill.
Lonnie is survived by his devoted wife, Mary L. Dill of Boone, Iowa; his son, Daniel P. Dill and his daughter, Julie C. Dill of Boone, Iowa; his grandson, Daren J. (DJ) Dill of Boone, Iowa; his three sisters, Linda D. Steeve of Indianola, Iowa, Carol J. Turner of Wayland, Iowa, Joyce L. Bailey and her husband, Charles of Gilbert, Arizona; his sister in law, Sandra Reid of Sedona, Arizona; his brother in law and sister in law, Steven and Linda Wedgbury of Hampton, Iowa, his brother in law, H. Scott Wedgbury and his partner, Yutaka Akita of Pasadena, California; his sister in law and brother in law, Phyllis and Ricky Mahaffey of Myrtle, Mississippi and his many nieces and nephews.
In memory of Lonnie, memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
