Elizabeth Supina

Liz Supina, 63, a retired government employee, who served her church for many years, passed into the loving arms of Jesus, on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, surrounded by loving family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 3 at the church with a Vigil service at 6:30 p.m.

Liz was born in Brooklyn, New York, June 1, 1949 and graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York with a major in political science and a minor in Spanish. Liz spoke Spanish fluently and greatly enjoyed Spanish culture and music. Liz was an adjudicator for the United States Department of Justice and worked for several local government agencies. She was a pastoral care visitor for Holy Trinity Catholic Church for more than 20 years. Liz had a special ministry to senior citizens and was considered an adoptive daughter by many Indianola residents. In her employment and her volunteer work, she always brought compassion to those she served. Liz loved pets, and her two Basset hounds, Lulu and Fred were her pride and joy.

Liz is survived and will always be missed by her loving husband, Jim; five cousins, Alice Mach of Framingham, MA, Ileen Twohy of Staten Island, NY, James and John Twohy, and Suzanna Howard. She is also survived by her Iowa Family, Elvira and Antonio Guerrero, Miguel and Jacqueline Guerrero, Tony and Rene Guerrero and Danielle, Natale and Martin, Eduardo and Xochitl Guerrero and Eduardo Jr., Wendy and Jalita; her Ohio Family, Joanne and Larry Miner and Taylor and Barbara and Christopher Altenburg; her New York Family, Brian and Bernadette Crea and Paula and Mary, and Christine D’Amato, Francine and Erkin Hatapaglia, Leyla and Grandma Marie all of Staten Island.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.
