Delbert was born on January 26, 1928 in Litchfield, Nebraska to Hayo and Helen Feldman. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Van Meter, Iowa, then as a teen to Polk City, Iowa. After his retirement, he continued to be a tireless worker at his church, in his garden, and helping friends, neighbors, and family.

Delbert was a family man and took great joy in his children, Steve, Nancy, and John, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 2009, Delbert lost the love of his life, Ginny. He is survived by his children Steven of Palatka, FL, Nancy of Duluth, MN, and John (Teri) of Alleman, IA. His also survived by his grandchildren Rebecca Feldman de Torres (Jose Luis) of Guadalajara, Mexico, David Feldman (Crystal) of Winterset, IA, Sarah Malone (Jonathan) of Shawnee, KS, Molly Feldman and Seth Feldman both of Duluth, MN, and Ashley and Tom Feldman of Alleman, IA.
