Camp Fire to Host Nature Activities for Kids and Families

Posted September 27, 2012 in Beaverdale, Community Web Exclusives

(Des Moines) Camp Fire, a community-based non-profit organization, will host an event for kids and their families where they can explore Camp Fire, nature, and other outdoor related crafts and activities. Participants will make their own snack over a fire, learn about the Iowa prairie, and make their first emblem of the season. Fishing will also be available.

Explore Camp Fire Day will be held at Witmer Park (34th and Washington in Des Moines) on Saturday, October 6, 2012 (rain or shine). Kids and their families can attend anytime between 11am and 1pm. This event is free!

Camp Fire believes young people want to shape the world and provides them with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. The local Heart of the Hawkeye Council has served well over 100,000 youth since opening in 1913, making it one of the most successful and deeply rooted youth-development organizations in Central Iowa. Camp Fire is over 100 years old.
