West Des Moines, IA (September 25, 2012) – Hubbell Realty Company broke ground this afternoon, Tuesday, September 25, on the second phase of Melbourne Apartments, a community located at 5515 SE 14th Street in Des Moines, Iowa.
Des Moines Assistant City Manager Matthew Anderson, East Des Moines Chamber of Commerce President Troy Paterson, Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Dave Jamison, and Wells + Associates President Doug Wells helped Hubbell Realty Company President and CEO Rick Tollakson, Vice President, Hubbell Construction Services Steve Niebuhr, Vice President Development Kris Saddoris, and Vice President Property Management Krista Capp turn the ceremonial dirt to mark the occasion.
The projected $8.165 million development will add 62 affordable one, two and three bedroom apartments to the community. Phase I of Melbourne Apartments was completed in summer 2010. The first phase included a clubhouse and three buildings comprised of a total of 84 units which are currently 100% leased. Phase II is projected to be completed in early 2013. Melbourne Apartments features in-unit washers/dryers, designer appliances, patios, and spacious closets as well as state-of-the-art amenities including a 24-hour fitness center, business center and splash pad.
“Hubbell Realty Company is looking forward to the next phase of Melbourne Apartments and continued development in south Des Moines,” stated Niebuhr. “When we began this development in 2009, we planned for future expansions to bring the total number of units to 216. We are excited to begin Phase II and move closer to reaching that target.”
