This past week the district’s Technology Committee reconvened after its initial work last spring.  Membership on the committee consists of thirty teachers representing all grade levels and buildings, two members of the technology department and eight administrators.

The purpose of the committee is to provide guidance and input on specific district technology issues and projects.  The committee is broken down into the following five subcommittees:

  • District Vision
  • Support Systems
  • Device and Platform
  • Methodology Changes
  • Instructional Learning

Each subcommittee spent time this past summer studying, researching and preparing their initial report.   This past week those findings were presented to the full committee.  Next steps for each subcommittee will be to finalize their recommendations.

While the work of the committee continues, the district is upgrading its capacity by installing wireless networks in all district buildings.  In addition, staff and students have been exposed to a variety of devices and strategies in an effort to gain information on what may work best at different levels and subject areas.

For the next several weeks I will be sharing information from each subcommittee.  The process being followed is an important one.  The decisions made will impact how district finances are allocated and will have a significant impact on teaching and learning.  More to come next week.
