Polly Margaret Hathcock, age 79, of Dedham, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Rick Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Polly’s children and honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Nancy Davis. Burial will be in Dedham Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Dedham American Legion.
Born on October 7, 1932 at Wilmore, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harvey James and Grace Dean (Foster) Stewart. She grew up in the Nottinghill, Missouri area where she attended school. She was married to Herman Hathcock on August 9, 1947 at Mountain Home, Arkansas. The couple moved to Dedham in 1959 where they raised their family. Polly was a school bus driver for Carroll Carroll Community School District for 34 years. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, sewing, taking care of her yard, watching NASCAR and attending races in Arizona. Polly dearly loved her two Yorkies: AZe and Holly.
Polly is survived by four daughters: Deborah Hamm of Des Moines, Iowa, Karan Nieland and her husband Larry of Tucson, Arizona, Annette Shiner of Altoona, Iowa, and Kim Durham and her husband Nicholas of Safford, Arizona; three sons: Alex Hathcock and his wife Tami of Chandler, Arizona, Brian Hathcock and his wife Jen of Carroll, and Ivan Hathcock of Altoona; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister Peggy Vens of Wheatland, Iowa; seven sister-in-laws; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman in 2001, two brothers Billie and Ivan J.
