After having previously lived on the town’s northeast side, Barb Brant bought has lived in her current Ankeny townhome for six-and-a-half years.
“I feel very safe here,” she says, sitting in her living room. “It works well for me.”
Since her three daughters have all graduated and moved out, Brant — a Certified Medical Assistant and proud new grandmother — finds the cozy two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath townhome to be a perfect fit for her and her two cats. When she moved in, Brant found the home’s layout to suit her well, and she’s done very little to change the look and feel of the home since then.
“Just the typical things like paint and shelving. I’ve made some minor changes to the laundry room, but everything else is pretty much the same,” she says.
The 1,400-foot townhome features the kitchen area and pantry on the back side of the main floor, along with the laundry room and a small bathroom. The front entry way opens onto a small living room where recessed shelving on the wall holds Brant’s TV and electronics.
The living room also features a gas fireplace. Upstairs, the home has a small landing area, which Brant uses for a computer and to hold a playpen for when her granddaughter visits, with the two bedrooms flanking either side. The layout of the upstairs is what Brant enjoys most about the home.
“The upstairs is really two master bedrooms with a complete bathroom off of each,” she says.
In addition to the full bath, each bedroom also comes equipped with its own walk-in closet and south-facing windows.
There is an attached two-car garage with entry through the kitchen. With her home on the end of the row, Brant has plenty of green space surrounding her.
“I have a much larger yard than any other place that I had looked at” she says. “I really enjoy having the space.”To be featured in an upcoming “Where We Live” column, contact Darren at 953-4822 ext. 304 or email@example.com.
