Enter our Science Fiction reading contest for patrons, ages 13 and older (adults, too) and win a set of “Star Trek” drinking glasses. For every science fiction book you check out (from the adult science fiction section) you earn an entry. Yes, adults may enter, too. The more sci-fi books you read the better your chance of winning.
The contest runs until October 31.
Young Readers’ Celebration
Come celebrate the joy of reading at the library from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 29. There will be all kinds of games to play. Learn some karate (maybe break a board or two), enjoy some yummy pizza and other tasty treats-and who couldn’t use a massage to relieve daily stress? Come on down and have some fun.
Teen Read Week
We have an abundance of teen activities in October. Come to the library at 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 15 for Zombie Craft-pocalypse.
The next day, October 5, prepare to be scared at the “Dark Shadows” movie (rated PG-13). Showtime is 5 p.m.
We wrap up Teen Read Week with “Make & Take Edible Books” from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 18. You’ll understand that books can really nourish the body as well as the mind.
Haunted House Program
Do you like being scared? Come to “Iowa’s Most Haunted,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 2.
The program will be presented by Chad Lewis, co-author of The Iowa Road Guide to Haunted Locations. Join Chad on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in our state.

Learn Infant Massage
Learn how to help your little baby relax and other benefits of baby massage with a class offered at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 20.

Scrapbooking has made a comeback in recent years and we’ll be offering several courses to get your projects organized and uncluttered.
It will be over the course of the next few months on selected Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Dates are October 7, November 4, December 2, January 13, February 3, March 3, April 7 and May 5.
By the end of the classes you’ll be an expert in the art of scrapbooking.
