Dorothy Virginia Janicke peacefully passed away on September 17, 2012 at the age of 95 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa where she had spent the last seven years.
She was born on February 18, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to John P. Bigus and Victoria P. Brusky and was one of nine children.
Dorothy was married to Edmund J. Janicke on April 3, 1938. He preceded her in death in October 2004. They were married for sixty six years and had two children, Gerald Janicke and Joanne Davis, both of which survive her along with Gerald’s wife Ann and Joanne’s husband Mark. Dorothy also had four grandchildren (Michael, Russell, Cheryl and Kimberly) and four great grandchildren (Nicholas, James, Preston and Gretta). She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Dorothy was one of nine children, two of which died after birth. Of the remaining she was one of four daughters and three sons. She was preceded in death by two of her sisters, Marie and Lillian and by all of her brothers, Clarence, Edward, and William. She is survived by one sister, Violette Maggio who resides in Safford, Arizona.
Dorothy moved to Centerville from Chicago in 1965 when husband Ed was chosen as one of the members of the management team sent to open the the newly constructed Union Carbide Corporation plant currently operated by Curwood Industries.
Dorothy’s joys included her family and her interest in making different kind of crafts over the years. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Dan Dark officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10-11 AM. Memorials have been established to the Hope Pregnancy Center of Centerville and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
