Stanley Lyle Oglesby, age 87, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Benjamin S. and Edith D. (Moore) Oglesby on December 29, 1924, in Seward, Nebraska. He graduated from the Seward High School and later would graduate with a Master in Education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
He served his country during WWII in the United States Army with the Signal Corp. On June 11, 1947, Stan was united in marriage to Helen Edith Hill at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was an educator for many years. He first taught school at Bolus, Nebraska, then moved to Lewellen, Nebraska, where he taught Math and was the Football, Basketball and Baseball head Coach. Then with a move to Wymore, Nebraska, he became a school Principal and later Superintendent. With a move to Centerville, Iowa in 1967, he became the Assistant Principal at the High School and later the Principal for the next 21 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville and was a past Rotary member in Centerville.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Bob, Glenn and Dick Oglesby; along with a sister, Ora Oglesby.
Stan is survived by: his wife, Helen Oglesby of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Linda Balog and husband, Bryan of Fairfax, Iowa, Susan Daugherty and her husband, Tom of Papillion, Nebraska, Trish Stephens and her husband, Dave of Centerville, Iowa and Nancy Pim and her husband, Bill of Washington, Iowa; a son, Steven Oglesby and Mark Dorpinghaus of Coralville, Iowa; Nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 2 pm until 8 pm with the family present from 3 pm until 5 pm at the funeral home.
