Summer Endings, Fall Beginnings

Posted September 12, 2012 in Community Featured, Norwalk

Wow, where did the summer go? I feel like we lost a month because it was too hot to do anything but stay inside and be cool.

The Chamber had a busy summer with the golf outing, Party before the Works, farmers’ market, ribbon cuttings, Picnic in the Park and Chamber night with the I-Cubs.

Now that school is officially underway, we turn our focus on fall events such as football, school activities and other events coming up such as Meet the Candidate events for the upcominge election and the Chamber’s annual fall event — the Wine Harvest Celebration.

You will want to mark your calendars now for Friday, Nov. 16 for the sixth annual Wine Harvest Celebration. This event is open to the public, and we encourage people to come out and have fun while sampling some wine, tasting food prepared by our very own Norwalk High School Culinary Arts class and bidding on some awesome baskets put together by Norwalk businesses.

A portion of the proceeds helps the Chamber to offer two scholarships to Norwalk seniors.  Tickets are $20 in advance.

Chairperson Nicole Smith of Accelerated Rehabilitation in Norwalk has come up with a fun idea to add to this year’s event — a casino night. We will have two blackjack tables, a roulette table and a spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes or win additional chips to “purchase” raffle tickets.  We will be using play money. We prefer that you use your real money to bid on the many baskets we will have up for the silent auction.

Meet the Candidate Night
The Meet the Candidate night will be Thursday, Sept. 27 at St John the Apostle Catholic Church located next to the water tower.  It will start at 6:30 p.m. and will give legislative and sheriff candidates a chance to say a few words and also give you the chance to learn more about each candidate with one-to-one conversations.

Businesses growing
Another fall beginning seems to be that some businesses have expanded or have moved, while new businesses are popping up here in Norwalk. The Chamber would like to extend a warm welcome to these new businesses and congratulate the businesses that have expanded. We would also like to encourage these businesses to check out their hometown Chamber of Commerce and help us to continue to accomplish our mission statement: Enhances the quality of life for the Norwalk area through Community Leadership, Economic Development and Promotion of Members.

As always, remember to buy locally.
