
With the onset of fall and the commencement of the school year comes the annual homecoming celebration. This year, the Johnston Dragons have a “Fire and Ice” theme, along with a variety of activities lined up for homecoming, September 10-15, 2012.
Monday, Sept. 10
The Rock Around the Clock tailgate starts at 5:30 p.m. and everyone can grab dinner for $5 before the games begin at 7 p.m. During the evening, 39 teams of students will compete against each other in fun games! Parents can watch from outside the fence. Proceeds from this event go toward the JHS Best Buddies Program.
Thursday Sept. 13
The homecoming parade starts at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Greendale and Pioneer Parkway and travels up Pioneer Parkway to 62nd and ends at the high school. Following the parade is a community cookout in the stadium and $5 will get you a burger/hot dog, bag of chips and a drink. The Powder Puff football games start at 7:30 p.m. with the sophomores taking on the juniors; winners will play the seniors in the second game.
Friday, Sept. 14
New this year is coronation at the football game. Friday night (starting at approximately 7 p.m.), the homecoming court and their parents with be introduced to the crowd and the king and queen will be announced prior to the varsity game.

The varsity football team will take on the Waukee Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the game is $6 for adults (ninth grade and up) and $4 for students K-8.
Saturday, Sept. 15
The homecoming dance is Saturday Sept 15 from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. at Summit Cafeteria. Tickets are available in the high school accounting office starting Sept 4.
