Rotary Club to hold barbecue fundraiser Sept. 6
The Johnston Rotary Club will hold its third annual community barbecue Thursday, Sept. 6, 5 – 7 p.m. at the Simpson Barn, located at 6191 Northglenn Drive. Money raised will be used to purchase and install industrial-strength picnic tables and benches at Youth Homes of Mid-America, as well as contribute to its general fund.
Newcomers Ministry begins meetings
There’s a ministry to newcomers led by women of the community who want to meet you. The Newcomers Ministry is designed to provide fellowship and encouragement for women going through the transition and adjustment of moving. It reminds you that God moved with you.
(This class is part of the international outreach of Just Moved! [www.justmoved.org] and is based on “After the Boxes are Unpacked,” a Focus on the Family book by Susan Miller.)
The group will meet Monday evenings from 7 – 8:30 p.m. or Tuesday mornings from 9 – 11:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 10 and 11 in the Welcome Room at Johnston Evangelical Free Church. Childcare is provided Tuesday mornings up to age 5 with donations going to the nursery fund.
Come to a meet and greet time on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 pm at Friedrichs Coffee (4632 86th St., Urbandale, behind Walgreens at the corner of 86th and Meredith). Other women who are new to the community will be there, along with women who have experienced being new and have a heart for women just like you. For more information, call Ann Davis (986-3734), Shannon Jepsen (984-6702), Jackie Arthur (259-4001), Lynn Woods (259-4411) or Carrie Meyer (402-990-4309). This group is for women who are new to the community. It is not exclusively for women who attend JEFC. If you are not new, but know someone who is, tell them about it.
