Jamie Elizabeth Hudrlik: Wonder Land
In the Pioneer Room through October 15, 2012

Ames, IA: The Iowa State Memorial Union is exhibiting artwork by Iowa City artist Jamie Elizabeth Hudrlik.  “Wonder Land,” features eleven large scale mixed media paintings on un-stretched canvas as well as eight small portraits.  Hudrlik describes this body of work as “personal and poetic explorations about growing up and letting go.”

As an artist and organic farmer, gardening has become a significant inspiration for Hudrlik’s work as well as a way to understand the process of life.  She can create her own physical Wonder Land.  Her paintings use dazzling colors, imaginative words and playful compositions delicately balanced between naiveté and sophistication, reminiscent of children’s books magical illustrations.

Hudrlik studied art at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, the University of Iowa before attending The School of Visual Arts in New York focusing on Fine Art and Children’s Illustration.  She finished her BFA in Art and Design at Columbia College in Chicago.

The Iowa State Memorial Union is located at 2229 Lincoln Way in Ames on the ISU campus.  The Pioneer Room is on the 3rd floor.  For viewing times between 8am and 8pm call 515.296.6848.
