Frank M. Botts, age 98, of Bayard, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Bob Rogers and Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Friends may call at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. followed by a Masonic memorial service. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Alice Drake. Casket bearers will be the board of directors of Farmers Mutual Insurance Association. Burial will be in Highland Township Cemetery near Bayard with military honors by the Bayard American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stewart Memorial Healing Garden Fund and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Frank was born in rural Guthrie County to Joseph W. and Nora B. (Houghton) Botts on September 4, 1913. He spent his early life near Lorimor, Iowa, graduating from Guthrie Center High School in 1931. He married Maxine B. Freesh on November 9, 1934 in Spencer, Iowa. He then worked on farms for 2 years, Green Bay Lumber Company for five years, and managed the Bayard Building Supply company from April 1942 to March of 1943 when he was drafted in the U.S. Army in March of 1943 and served in the United States and European Theater until January of 1946. Frank was a carpenter from 1946 through 1949, then an insurance agent from 1949 to 1978. He was also a director at the Farmers Mutual Insurance Association of Guthrie County for 55 years. He was a substitute rural mail carrier for 28 years then was appointed a regular carrier in 1978, retiring in 1982. Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Bayard Church of Christ, the Bayard Fire Department, and the American Legion.
Frank is survived by two nieces: Elaine Peebles and her husband Don of Clermont, Florida, and Jeanette Sargent and her husband Chet of Scranton; two nephews: Keith Reinhart and his wife Ruby of Scranton and Leslie Reinhart of Scranton; and two cousins: Bob Bailey and his wife Verlene of Perry, Iowa, and Wilma Long of Storm Lake, Iowa.
