Tom Anderson, age 68, of 211 W. Park Avenue in Boone, died August 22, 2012, at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Duffel officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Tom was born November 20, 1943, in Boone, the son of Bernard and Gladys (Swanson) Anderson.
He graduated from Boone High School in 1963 and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.
On December 15, 1984, Tom married Janis Stark in Boone.
Tom was an engineer for 30 years for Chicago Northwestern Railway and then Union Pacific.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE), and the Tall Corn Antique Automobile Club.
Tom was a member of the Iowa National Guard for four years.
He enjoyed woodworking, classic cars, metal detecting, watching westerns and old movies, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Tom loved eating ice cream and going out for coffee.
He is preceded in death by his father Bernard, a sister Barbara Murphy, and a niece Angie Anderson.
Tom is survived by his wife Janis of Boone; five sons: Dusty Anderson and wife AshLea, Tracy Anderson and wife Becca, and Travis Anderson and wife Amber, all of Boone, Jeff Wilhelm and wife Chris of Woodburn, and Jerry Wilhelm of Dayton; a daughter, Natalee Clabaugh of Stratford; his mother Gladys Anderson of Boone; three brothers: Mark Anderson and wife Bev, Kevin Anderson and wife Nancy, and Brian Anderson and wife MaryKay, all of Boone; a sister, Denise Laws of Lafayette, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Visitation continues Tuesday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
