Fall Kubb Klassic set for Sept. 22

Des Moines Kubb will hold its annual Fall Kubb Klassic to raise money for charity on Sept. 22 at Tower Park, located on Hickman Road between 48th and 50th streets. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Play starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $40 for a minimum two-person team, and experience is not required to play. This event is geared toward new teams who want to learn how to play the game. All proceeds will go to Blank Children’s Hospital and be directed to Child Life Council. Last year the club raised $1,500 for Animal Lifeline of Iowa. Kubb (pronounced koob) is a 1,000-year-old lawn game that is said to have been invited by Vikings and is nicknamed “Viking chess.” It is a combination of bowling and horseshoes.
