Autumn is rearing its beautiful head, and area churches are celebrating Mother Earth’s changes.
In appreciation for the cooler weather, Ivy Centennial United Methodist Church is taking its fellowship outdoors for a church picnic at Chick-A-Pen Hill on Saturday, Sept. 8. Then, on Sunday, Sept. 9, the church will host School Rally Day from 9 – 9:15 a.m. Learn more about the church online at www.ivycentennial.org, visit the church at 9150 E. University Ave. or call (515) 967-5468.
Altoona United Methodist Church has been planning another spiritual growth campaign entitled “40 Days in the Word,” a Bible study that doesn’t stop merely at increasing one’s knowledge through receiving, reading, researching, remembering and reflecting on the scriptures, but also how to put God’s word into practice. Groups will gather weekly to watch a DVD teaching session that will explore the Bible. Then, a discussion about the truths of scripture and how to apply them to life will foster an enhanced fellowship for all involved.
“An exciting aspect of this campaign is the opportunity to gather in small groups that meet in homes or other comfortable settings for six weeks studying God’s Word together,” the church newsletter states. “Knowing and applying the scriptures creates the foundation for our lives. We must be living translations of God’s Word.
The “40 Days Around the World” Bible study will begin in late September, so throughout the month of August, the UMC has been looking for host homes where groups can meet in the fall to go through this study together. Anyone interested in offering a host home will need a TV/DVD and a willingness to facilitate a group through the study guide following the DVD teaching led by Rick Warren.
For more information regarding this study and testimonies of those who completed it, check out www.40ditw.com. Contact LeAnn Gaulke at (515) 967-2991 or email@example.com to learn more about being a host home.
