Died August 12, 2012

Shirley W. Freeman, 88 of Indianola died August 12, 2012 at home. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Mrs Freeman was a long time resident of rural Prole, IA before moving to Indianola.

Born in San Diego, CA, Mrs. Freeman graduated from Davenport Central High School and worked for the U.S Weather Bureau prior to her marriage in 1946.

She was a founding member of the Norwalk Chapter of Sweet Adelines and most recently sang with the Des Moines Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Besides singing with the group she had also served as Regent of the Midwest Region as well as on the International Board of Directors. Mrs. Freeman was also an expert tailor and designer, creating many of the chapter’s costumes.

Mrs. Freeman, and her husband Elton, loved to travel and had explored the back roads and railroads of all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Survivors include her son Thomas (Cindy) of Indianola; daughter Beth of Leawood, KS; granddaughter Genny of Earlham; and grandson Justin of Des Moines.
And, her beloved Rusty.
