Drake Library’s FIRST Blog Post!

The Drake Public Library Summer Reading Program was a success this year in Centerville, Iowa. 214 children registered. The participants ranged in age from 0 to 14 years old. The participants read books and tracked hours. The group read over 1,650 hours! Incredible!

110 kids completed the required ten hours of reading. They received incentives from local businesses including, Pizza Hut, Sonic, The Blank Park Zoo, and small items purchased by the Friends of the Drake Public Library.

The library hosted six weekly story time hours. Special programs included, the Star Lab Planetarium, Dan Wardell (IPTV), Ronald McDonald, and Appanoose County Historical Museum, and the Blank Park Zoo. The grand finale was a bowling party at Adams Bowl on Saturday July 28th. Over 85 people attended the bowling party!

The regular library programs will start when school is back in session.  Monday Story Time at 4:00 pm for school age children. Wednesdays at 11:30 am for toddler story time. Game group for school age kids Thursdays at 4:00 pm. For more information call JeNel at the Drake Public Library.

The Friends of The Drake Public Library will be hosting the annual rummage sale on September 6,7,8 2012 at the library. All proceeds will benefit the library.
