Back to School

Posted August 15, 2012 in Community Featured

As the blistering heat and long days of summer begin to dwindle, Webster City begins to prepare for fall and the routine schedule that the new season brings.

Area churches, such as the Asbury United Methodist Church, are bidding adieu to summer by gearing up for fall evens and schedule changes.

Asbury United Methodist Church, 921 Des Moines St., is helping the kids in the congregation get back into the swing of school with youth groups and Sunday school. Kids can meet on Sunday mornings starting in September to hang out and learn about their faith in a fun environment.

Additionally, the women of Asbury UMC are getting ready for an exciting event of their own. The Women of Faith Conference in Des Moines is coming up on Aug. 24 – 25. Tickets are still available for women who want to celebrate their faith with other Christian women from the Des Moines area.

For more information about upcoming events at Asbury UMC, contact the church at (515) 832-5369, or visit the website at www.asburywc.org.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran, 1229 Kathy Lane, is getting ready for fall and upcoming events with the WELCA Fall Retreat coming up on Sept. 12. WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) invites women to attend the retreat at Twin Lakes Christian Center to celebrate their faith with each other and hear the stories from guest speakers.

Trinity is also getting ready for a 2013 mission trip. The church is going to Tanzania in July next year, and although the trip is almost a year away, the registration deadline is coming up on Sept. 30.

Find out about Trinity’s upcoming events at www.trinitywebstercity.org, or call (515) 832-2220.

St. Thomas Aquinas School, 624 Dubuque St., is getting ready for school, too. The first day of school is Aug. 21, and St. Thomas is getting ready for the halls to be flooded with students. The school encourages parents to purchase SCRIP, which is “substitute money” in the form of negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that can be used to purchase everyday necessities like food and clothes. With every purchase, parents earn revenue for the school.
