Miriam Miller, age 70, of Grand Junction, died August 9, 2012, at the Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 13, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 1216 East 25th Court, in Des Moines with Major Beth Petrie officiating.
Following the service, her body will be cremated and burial will be in Andrew, Iowa, at a later date.
Miriam was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 6, 1942, the daughter of Perry and Margaret (Stoneham) Worman.
In 1968, Miriam married Gerald W. Miller at Maquoketa, Iowa.
She graduated from Morton High School in Hammond, Indiana, and Vennard College in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Miriam then attended The Salvation Army School for Officers in Chicago, Illinois.
She served as a Captain for The Salvation Army Corps in the Central Territory for 12 years.
She presently was a member of The Salvation Army Citadel Corps in Des Moines.
Miriam enjoyed her cats, scrapbooking, crocheting, her Church and Bible Study, and spending time with her nieces and nephews whom she considered her children. She also enjoyed traveling.
Miriam is preceded in death by her parents, step-father Robert Greatrix, husband, brother, David Worman, and niece Debra Bratcher.
She is survived by a sister Faith Horton of Grand Junction and her children, Jo Hall of Carroll, Pam Winebrenner of Grand Junction, Ruth Horton of Beatrice, Nebraska, John Horton (Pam) of Weatherford, Texas, nephews-in-law Jim Hall and Richard Bratcher, both of Grand Junction; a foster sister Alice (Bill) Brown of Prescott, Arizona, and her children Brad (Lisa) Brown of Centennial, Colorado, and Bonnie (Mike) Burgess of Arlington Heights, Illinois; uncle, M.W. ‘Bud’ Stoneham of Ontario, Canada; many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, several great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of other cousins and friends.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. where the family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m.
Visitation on Monday will be at The Salvation Army in Des Moines from noon until service time.
