Posted August 10, 2012 in Clive, Des Moines West, Downtown, Community Web Exclusives, Web Exclusives, West Des Moines

Des Moines, Iowa—Metro Arts Alliance of Greater Des Moines is hosting the first annual 5K Rock ‘n Run to benefit the organization’s arts education programs and help to provide metro schools with art supplies.  This adrenaline-pumping event for adults and children brings together the excitement of a race and the exhilaration of giving back to the community.  The race and festival will be Saturday, September 22, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Clive Aquatic Center—1801 NW 114th Street.

The Rock ‘n Run consists of a 5K chip timed race and one mile walk with local bands performing throughout the race route.  After the race, rock/folk quintet The Nadas will perform a full concert that is free and open to the public. This is a family-friendly event with children’s activities, giant inflatables, local food vendors and microbrew beer.

Help support our local schools! Drop off art supplies to various boxes distributed throughout the city to benefit children of Des Moines Metro Schools.

Registration is now open. The general entry fee is $30.00 per person in advance and $40.00 after September 13th. Online registration is encouraged; please visit to sign up.  The first 500 registrants will receive an eco-friendly Whole Foods shopping bag, collapsible water bottle, race shirt, pedometer and other great items from race sponsors.

Metro Arts Alliance advances creativity and strengthens our community through arts opportunities and education. We strive to connect the community to the local arts through programming, communication and support of artists and arts organizations.
