Something to Celebrate

Posted August 08, 2012 in Community Featured

August means the beginning of the school year and the beginning of structured schedules and real life for Fort Dodge residents. But it also means a time for celebration as Fort Dodge churches send off the summer in style.

Celebrate 150 years of good faith at Trinity United Methodist Church with an ice cream social on Aug. 12.

Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 838 N. 25th St., certainly has something to celebrate as it turns 150 this year. Trinity UMC has been serving the community and celebrating faith since 1862. To mark this impressive milestone, the church is throwing an ice cream social on Aug. 12. The church encourages members of the congregation to come out and celebrate 150 years of faith, as well as the end of the summer, with a cold treat.

After the anniversary celebration, however, it’s back to real life for Trinity. On Aug. 23, the women of the congregation are invited to put on the rubber gloves and help out with the annual church cleaning. Volunteers will clean the church, nursery, kitchen and sanctuary pews. Rolls, coffee and juice will be provided for those who come out to help.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 21st Ave. N., is also celebrating the summer in August. On Aug. 11, Pastor Mark Eisold and his family will be at Mission Central to share the experiences they’ve had while working with LCMS World Mission in Lima, Peru.

Additionally, the Saints Alive Retreat at Camp Okoboji is coming up Aug. 17 – 19, and the second annual golf outing is taking place at the camp on Aug. 19. Both are excellent opportunities to celebrate faith with the rest of the congregation in a fun, unique environment outside of the church.

Good Shepherd is getting ready for the school year, too. Pre-registration meetings for Crosstown (grades 1 – 4) and Catechism (grades 5 – 8) will be held on Aug. 29. The meetings are a good opportunity to learn about signing congregation kids up, or to find out about volunteer opportunities with either of the youth groups.
