As the summer starts to wind down, churches are heading outdoors for activities, events and worship. It’s a great time to be outside while learning about the Lord, and there are plenty of events going on to keep you entertained.
First Presbyterian Church will hold a Worship in the Park and Potluck event on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in Cunninghams’ Park, west of Jefferson on Highway 30. Following the service (there will be no Sunday school) will be a potluck lunch. Attendees should bring lawn chairs, utensils and one or two of your favorite dishes to share.
Youth Force, which offers fun, fellowship and biblical teachings for students in grades 5 – 12, will began holding its weekly Wednesday night activities starting in September (through May). The events kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a meal followed by the group being divided into age appropriate groups for discussions centered around issues relating to youth and corresponding biblical principles and fun-filled activities.
First United Methodist Church is currently gathering items for the InGathering Kits before the end of September. Items needed for the health kits include bars of soap in wrappers, washcloths, fingernail clippers and hand towels. Items needed for the school kits include crayons (24 count), 70-sheet notebooks, yellow pencils (unsharpened) and blunt-end scissors. Donations can be dropped off at the church.
Central Christian Church has T-shirts for sale. The church has designed some new T-shirts to help spread the word. The shirts are available in two styles and colors and can be purchased in the church office. Various sizes are available for $12 each.
The hospitality committee will meet at the church on Monday, Aug. 27 from 1 – 2 p.m.
The Dwelling Place will hold its monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast on Aug. 11 at 7 a.m. Meet at the Uptown Café, and enjoy a hearty breakfast along with the opportunity to become better acquainted as well as fellowship and inspiration. The breakfast takes place the second Saturday of every month.
Abundant Life Ministries welcomes kids and adults of all ages to worship at The Meeting Place. On Wednesdays, from 7 – 8 p.m., everyone is welcome to come together for some praise and worship. Following the good word, attendees will be divided up into age-appropriate groups to learn about God’s word.
