Everyone needs friends! The Jefferson Public Library has a special group of friends called the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library (FOL).
Established in 1993, the FOL began with a group of individuals who recognized that the library could do more with more — more finances and volunteers. The organization has since evolved with a clear mission statement: to support and promote the library through programs, advocacy and financial support.
As a lifelong learning center of our community, our library offers numerous reading programs which benefit all ages of patrons from babies to children, teens and adults. The FOL helps fulfill this purpose with its funds and volunteers.
As advocates, the FOL support and promote the library with its community involvement. A few sponsored events include National Library Week, Bell Tower Festival, summer reading programs for all ages and Halloween activities.
Stroll around the outside of the library and notice the colorful banners, landscaping and the new book return. Now walk inside, sit down in a comfy armchair or use a computer. Need color copies? Use the new color printer. These are just a few of the items purchased by the FOL.
“I think most patrons would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends,” remarked Pat Rusnak, vice president of FOL.
Approximately 200 members give annually of their time, talent and finances in order to strengthen our library’s current resources. For future generations of library users, consider a gift to the FOL in your estate planning. Our non-profit status grants our donors the benefit of tax deductions.
Please join us for our primary fundraiser, our annual fall book sale, scheduled during regular library hours in the library basement from Sept. 8 – 15. The first day of the sale is free to members. Membership forms are available at the desk.
Numerous volunteer opportunities exist for those interested in supporting and promoting the Jefferson Public Library. Become a friend — support and promote your library.
