James Francis Hawkins, youngest son of James L. and Bertha (Tuttle) Hawkins was born September 26, 1927 in Wayne County, Iowa.
His early years were spent on the home farm. He attended Cambria Consolidated School from first through twelfth grade.
He served in the Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1947, he worked on a large ranch in California, where english walnuts, pears, and tomatoes were grown, in addition to livestock.
He returned to Iowa to farm with his parents for four and one half years.
Over the years he held various jobs, working in a gypsum mill in Fort Dodge, Lennox Furnace Company, in Des Moines, and for John Deere Des Moines Works, in Ankeny, for thirty and one half years.
After retiring from John Deere in 1987, he spent fifteen years driving for the Des Moines Auto Auction, and Adesa Auction.
His survivors include his wife Marjorie (Lockhard) Hawkins, sisters; Elsie Smith, Louise Clark, Arlene McKnight, and Norma Hawkins, a brother-in-law, Raymond Ball, and over 200 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and wives; Willard, Walter (Pauline), Morgan (Margaret), and Floyd (Wilma), sisters and husbands; Willa, Lucille, Wilma (Ike), Marjorie (Harvey), and Fern, also nephews and niece; Daryl, Dwain, Gary, Ron, and Miranda.
