If you have visited the Adel Public Library this spring and summer, you know that major changes are in the works.
The last portion of the library building project — Phase 3 — is scheduled to be completed at the end of July. The construction will complete the east end of the second floor and will accommodate a meeting room, more space to expand the adult and teen sections and additional storage.
Phase 3 has been totally financed through private funds from the Adel Public Library Foundation. No tax dollars have been used.
“We are excited to see the library completed,” says Paula James, library director. “We’ve waited six years for this. Currently our shelves are packed with books and the finished addition will give us the growing room we need.”
New shelving will be added and new computers will replace the old ones.
The library will be closed for a limited time while staff and volunteers arrange the books on the second floor Dust from construction has filtered into the adult and teen sections and clean up will take place as well. James envisions this happening the week of Aug. 12.
“We should be up and running sometime in August. Watch for further updates on closure times,” says James.
Many volunteers are needed to sort books and dust and clean shelving and books. Anyone interested in donating time for this project may call the library at 993-3512 or sign up at the front desk. Many hands will make the job go faster.
“We are looking forward to having an open house as soon as everything is in place,” says James.
