August is here, and with it comes the new school year. As students get ready to go back to the daily grind, so do Perry churches.

The first day of school will be here in no time at all. Kids start the first day at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, 1302 Fifth St., on Aug. 21, and getting connected at St. Pat’s will be a little easier this school year. A recent $2,500 grant from Tyson Foods will allow the school to install wireless Internet throughout the building.

To find out more about the upcoming year at St. Patrick’s, call (515) 465-4186, or visit the website at www.stpatricks-perry-ia.org.

Additionally, St. Patrick Parish, 1312 Third St., is resuming religious education classes on Aug. 22, coinciding with the new school year. To find out more about St. Patrick’s upcoming religious education classes, contact the church at (515) 465-4387, or check out the website at www.parishesonline.com.

First Christian Church, 1224 Lucinda St., is also getting ready for the school year. The EDGE youth group will resume meetings on Wednesdays offering a place for youth in the community to meet with their peers every week to explore their faith in a fun and relaxed environment. Organizers remind participants to make the weekly meetings a part of their routine.
To find out more about the EDGE youth group, contact First Christian at (515) 465-2215 or visit the website at www.perryfcc.org.

Crossroads Church, 2810 First Ave., is also reminding the youth in the congregation to come out on Wednesdays for Ignite.

“We teach teens how the Bible applies to their everyday lives,” says Pastor Rick Gates. “We help each other with life issues as we learn what’s in the Bible.”

Fall meetings aren’t just for the kids, though. Crossroads will begin the Celebrate Recovery program on Aug. 25. The group will meet every Saturday from 7 – 9 p.m. to discuss problems ranging from gambling to eating disorders. Celebrate Recovery is a safe environment to share with others and promote healing.

For more information about upcoming events at Crossroads, contact the church at (515) 465-5478, or hit up the website at www.crossroads4u.net.
