Lakeside Dining

Posted August 01, 2012 in Community Featured, Clear Lake

Back in the day, cozy places to dine and relax on the lake were almost a dime a dozen. We took them for granted.

No more, but this summer has seen the opening of at least one new establishment, right on the lake, and a welcoming place for the public to enjoy the view while sipping a drink or dining out with friends.
The Landing Patio Bar and Grill opened recently at the South Shore Inn, 1603 South Shore Drive. On any given night, visitors at The Landing can take in live music or simply unwind at the end of a long day by watching the lake put itself to bed for the night.

It’s even a great way to start the day on Sundays, as The Landing offers a premier brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brunch-goers will find three cooking stations set up on the outside deck, serving a variety of breakfast and lunch favorites. The first station offers Belgian waffles, while made-to-order omelets are cooked up at the second station, and a pasta bar is the feature of the third and final station.

For dinner, the starter baskets offer plenty to share. The Landing Rings look to be an early favorite, with sweet batter coating golden-fried onions, and served with a special Landing sauce. For variety, sample the sweet potato fries or chicken wings.

Friday and Saturday nights feature specialty baskets, including a tasty homemade coleslaw, along with a choice of french or sweet potato fries, or a side of salad or fresh fruit. The entrée of my choice is always the prime rib sandwich, but grilled kabobs are also a delight, with red bell peppers, baby bella mushrooms and Bermuda onions.

And, of course, don’t forget to look over the extensive drink menu. With everything from a “Tipsy Arnold Palmer” (Jeremiah Weed sweet tea vodka, lemonade and lemon wedge), to a Pink Canoe (Absolut Mandarin, peach schnapps, pineapple and grenadine) to domestic and specialty beers, there’s something here to quench every thirst — soft drinks included.

For lighter fare, stop by at lunchtime for a grilled chicken sandwich or a hamburger. It may be hot outside, but the view of the lake makes it all worthwhile as a place to unwind.
