Funeral Services for Betty Jo Callaway, 89, of Jefferson will be 11:00 am Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Monday, two hours prior to the service at the Central Christian Church. Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Betty Jo Callaway was born November 12, 1922 in Union, Iowa to Charles Chester Callaway and Lucile Hauser Madole Callaway. Growing up, Betty lived in Grundy Center, Perry until the family settled in Jefferson. Betty Jo graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941. After graduation, Betty Jo went to work for the town vet, L.E. Smith. She then went to work as a bookkeeper for Jefferson State Bank which later became Brenton Bank, where she worked for 44 years before retiring in 1987.
Betty Jo stayed very active. She was very involved in the Central Christian Church which is the church she was baptized in. Betty Jo was a former Sunday school teacher and treasurer, she was a past president of Christian Women’s Fellowship and was a Circle Leader; she was an active member of the church choir and helped with many funeral lunches. She was also a past president of the Business Professional Women, and was a member of the Margaret Fuller Study Club.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents.
